Hello Friends and Supporters of Mission of Love Charities: Finally, with the arrival of Spring, we can celebrate the coming out and coming up with all warmer temperatures and lovely blossoms.
Special Events There will be several special events on Saturdays in the weeks to come. All events are at the MOLC facility at 6180 Old Central Ave., in Capitol Heights, Maryland.
On Saturday, April 16, Mission of Love Charities hosted the Celebration of Easter. This was a special day for the children in our community. Children gathered to make and decorate Easter baskets and greeting cards.
On Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Mission of Love Charities will celebrate Mother’s Day with a special day for Moms. Bring Mom to the Mission of Love Charities facility, and there will be free haircuts, free facials and free gifts.
Job Training Programs Mission of Love Charities continues with its enhanced commitment to its Workforce Development, Education and Job Training program – with the launching of several new programs to help people get back on their feet economically and become self-sustaining with employment.
Perhaps the most extensive new training module being presented by MOLC are the courses in OSHA Construction Inspection, which will start in this month. Specifically, the OSHA-focused training module will focus on the following areas: Permit Required Confined Space, OSHA Recordkeeping, Hazard Communications, Electrical Safety with Lockout/Tagout, Silica Exposure, Machine Guarding, Fall Protection with Ladder Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Powered Industrial Trucks, and Hot Works.
Additionally, MOLC’s Job Training programs continue with multi-week courses in Employee Readiness, Event & Meeting Planning Bootcamp and the Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant Training Program. All of these courses have produced graduates in sessions since the beginning of 2021. The demand for these courses far outstrips the capacity to meet that demand.
Starting in June, MOLC will offer a STEM Pipeline Initiative for students in grades 6-12. The session will be offered with two options: either Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or weekdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Each session will have eight workshops. The goal of this Initiative will be to create a learning environment that ensures that students can adapt to the mindset and skills required in the next generation of STEM workers.
Also starting in June, MOLC is offering a Job Readiness Training Workshop for high school graduates. The sessions will be offered with two options: weekdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. or Saturdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The weekday sessions will start with a Saturday orientation and then be held 13 days, Monday through Thursday. The Saturday session will be held 8 consecutive Saturdays. The goal of this initiative is to provide opportunities to young adults and their families to acquire the skills needs for employment success.
Progress on Work to Rebuild, Renovate and Repurpose School Building Across the Street Mission of Love Charities continues with its work to renovate the old Lyndon Hill school building across the street from its current facility to create a new and expanded facility for its operations with a focus on Workforce Development.
In 2020 the Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County granted a long-term lease to MOLC for the building, located at 6181 Old Central Ave., for $1 per year. The new facility promises to deliver increased space for all MOLC operations, with an emphasis on classrooms and other space for Workforce Development, Education, and Job Training courses. |
