[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Sunday Sangha at Potter's House: 2nd Foundation of Mindfulness - Being who you are rather than who you think you're supposed to be
Greetings!
Our Sangha will gather this Sunday, January 28th, 6:00 pm - 7:30, at the Potter's House. If you're able, arrive five minutes early to be part of set up crew!
We meet in the Community Room--head straight past the checkout counter down the hall.
This Sunday we continue our tour through the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, moving on to the second foundation: Vedana. I think of vedana as the subtle inner signal that I find something pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral. Wait, did you just get bored?
It was LIFE CHANGING for me to start paying attention to vedana! I realized I'd been trying to get myself to like people and things that I didn't! I realized I was trying to not like stuff that I actually did! It was transformative for me--like I became a real person instead of just doing and thinking what I thought I was supposed to do and think. If you get 1/3 of what I got out of paying attention to vedana, I will be a happy dharma camper.
See you soon!
Klia

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Sunday Sangha at Potter's House: First Foundation of Mindfulness - the remarkable reality of being a body
Hello lovely people,
Our Sangha will gather this Sunday, January 21st from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm in our new digs at the Potter's House.
This Sunday we continue our tour through the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, staying with the remarkable reality of being a body. We will continue to build off of last week's discussion, explore the gift of the body, some of the reasons we turn away, how such turning away can impact ours' and other's lives, and how this practice can offer a chance to reconnect.
We will meet in the Community Room behind the bookstore/cafe. Just head straight past the front counter down the hall on either side. Try to arrive on time.
See you soon.

Re: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] Sunday Sangha at Potter's House: First Foundation of Mindfulness - Letting Everything Belong
Dear friends,
Apologies for this confusing and ultimately distracting message.
Something very strange happened, I sent it out last Saturday through the google groups interface but for some reason it didn't go out until this afternoon (whilst I was out running errands).
I'm sending this message out a different way so we'll see how it goes.
In Sangha,
Kristin

We begin with mindfulness of the body. Contact with the body through felt sensation is rich and endlessly helpful in supporting the development of our meditation practice. Equally if not more valuable, this practice can provide a deep and authentic sense of well-being in our moment-to-moment experience wherein everything discovered is welcomed. We will meet in the Community Room behind the bookstore/cafe. Just head straight past the front counter down the hall on either side. Please endeavor to arrive on time.I look forward to seeing you there!Kristin

On January 20, 2018 women and allies will once again take to the streets of the nation's capital to make a powerful statement to the current administration and the rest of the world. In a follow-up to the largest demonstration in U.S. history, people from across the country will meet at the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial at 11a.m. where March Forward Virginia will host a rally showcasing several speakers followed by a march on the White House.
Muslim/Refugee Ban: A Year of Resistance

Hundreds will join local and national Muslim, immigrant, refugee, and civil rights organizations at noon on Saturday, January 27th in front of the White House to protest the one-year anniversary of the first Muslim and Refugee Ban and subsequent bans that have discriminated against communities and dismantled the refugee resettlement program. Impacted leaders who are still affected by the current bans on Muslim-majority nations will speak about how families are separated. Refugee leaders will protest the most recent refugee ban, which alongside other policy changes is estimated to result in only 15,000 refugees arriving this year, just a third of the 45,000 cap set by the President - already the lowest cap in history.
