[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] This Sunday: Insight Dialogue with Sue Brown

Hi friends,

This Sunday, we'll be joined by senior teacher Sue Brown, visiting us from Raleigh, NC. Sue brings decades of experience with Insight Dialogue — a special opportunity for our community.

Together we'll engage in relational meditation: bringing mindfulness into listening, speaking, and being together in community.

Sue's in DC preparing for a retreat next weekend, and we're excited that she gets to connect with Downtown Dharma while in town. (Her bio is here.)

No prior experience is necessary—just a spirit of kindness and curiosity.

In-person: 7pm to 8:30pm @ Yoga District — 1910 14th Street NW, 3rd Floor, Washington, DC.

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Downtown Dharma Reading Group 2026 Availability

Hey everybody,

As I've mentioned over the past few weeks, the Downtown Dharma reading group will be held at the Washington Buddhist Vihara Society starting in 2026. We're still in the planning stages of relaunching this program, so I wanted to offer a poll for those interested to share what days work best for them. The frequency and times at which we'll be meeting will depend on availability and interest.

** If you'd like to participate in the reading group, please fill out this When2Meet poll with your preferred days and times by December 1st, 2025. **

Also, if you'd like to contribute potential readings or topics for next year, feel free to reach out to me or Megan Williams (currently traveling) with any thoughts or feedback.

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Sunday Gathering - The Dharma of Direct Experience

Dear sangha,

Wishing you well this beautiful weekend. Going outside on a day like today? That's an easy choice. But a lot of life is confusing. Buddhist wisdom - the dharma - can be clarifying, but it can also be confusing. So many lists! So many numbers! So many metaphors!

But what if enjoying the feeling of the sun on our skin was also dharma? If the open sky was our teacher, and our sensory experience the instructor? Tomorrow night, we'll explore some ways that our direct experience can lead us to greater wisdom, ethical living, and mindful presence.
