Hello sangha! I'm writing to let you know about a training I am participating in that I think would interest many of you. It's a pathway to stand in full personal power in our inner and outer worlds - more details below & here. Also, I'm working on a group rate that could get us a $75+ discount on the weekend workshop if two or more folks come in. I know the teacher and am happy to answer questions anyone might have. Furthermore,...

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Seeking a rooomate in Falls Church VA
Dear fellow sangha members, My name is Bennett and I am currently seeking a roommate in mid September or beginning October who values living mindfully. I practice meditation, yoga and chigong on a regular basis and I am interested in creating and maintaining a space that promotes overall health, wellbeing and connection. My intention is to also create community by hosting regular meditation sittings and mindful mutuality groups...

Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
I'm with Robyn on this one, which is why I recommended you find someone to consult with to analyze your best and most cost effective solution. The site may already be a type of CMS, and the admin login and some minor training could be all you need. Or it might be a bunch of faux-dynamic, actually-static files that "need" (but not really) a developer to update. Or it could be even more complex. Without looking at the source code,...
Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
Hi Mel, et al.
I am sorry to disagree with such excellent advice - I know the people
here are very smart about strategic thinking. But unless I have missed
something, you still don't know what your website is made from or what
files are there.
The cost of rebuilding the site is not trivial, and tracking down a
user/password would almost certainly be easier. Any coder could probably
see a way to view your admin area quite...

[dcphp-dev] Re: Need help with PHP site
Mel, I think your instincts are right about the site, but you won't learn how to do updates and improvements in a small number of man-days; this sort of thing is learned in semesters of college. It would probably be wise to discard what you have here and start over. Here's how the standards organizations see the site:http://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.millenniumartssalon.org%2FI generally agree with the...

Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
So Mel, Are you in touch with the original developer? Because that admin area appears to offer some functionality that *could* obviate the need for a coder - maybe. Also, if you cannot get the credentials, if you own the domain, you might need coding assistance - someone to contact the host and review the files, I wold be happy to help, but also there are many good coders on this list.Best of luck, Robyn WyrickPresident,...
Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
Tac, I wasn't trying to be rude or imply anything negative about you or your business practices. It just seemed like you're trying to reinvent the wheel when there wasn't any need for it. I'd recommend trying to get in touch with the previous company and see if you can get access to the back end. If they are cool enough to give him the credentials to log in then he might want to consider getting the help of a developer that's...
Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
Melvin, I agree with Tac. There's an upfront cost associated with a move to Wordpress. However, the overall cost shouldn't be overwhelming because it appears most of the content is static. The biggest advantage to bite the bullet is to leverage the strength of the Wordpress community. The wordpress codebase is constantly updated (for features, bug fixes, and security updates). There are countless folks who publish how-to...
Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
I agree that if the site can be accessed there may be no need to rebuild anything. But I don't imagine anyone is trying to do anything but be helpful. There is an admin login here: http://www.millenniumartssalon.org/admin/Perhaps there is a CMS under it. The site appears to have been designed by http://www.microsol.biz/contact-us.php - but they don't have a phone number. They might have admin credentials.If...
Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
Because it appears that to make modifications to the site you need a PHP developer and FTP access.I find your comment about an overzelous developer trying to make some cash to be completely inappropriate (and wildly inaccurate). I used to develop small php-driven sites for non-profits, exactly like this. I converted them all to Wordpress, specifically so that they didn't need to contact me when they wanted...
Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
Why rebuild the site, if you can just get access to the back end from the previous devs?It seems like that would be over kill and the stance of an overzealous developer looking to make some cash of a site...On Wed, Aug 19, 2015 at 1:17 PM, Tac Tacelosky <tacman@gmail.com> wrote:You might be better off finding a Wordpress theme and re-creating the site in Wordpress. Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
You might be better off finding a Wordpress theme and re-creating the site in Wordpress. Then it'd be fairly easy to update the site, or find people who can. You can even do that without interacting with the old developers. And frankly, you don't want to be tied to new developers either. There's no reason that a site like yours should be custom-built, it's an ideal candidate for Wordpress. TacOn Wed,...
Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
Even without looking at the code (which we cannot do without access to the server) I'd have to agree with Chris. It doesn't appear to be a CMS with easy (user friendly) to edit and update pages. I'm sure someone in the area could do some consultation work to determine exactly what you need. Feel free to contact me off-list if you'd like to schedule a consultation visit.--Sean Prunkasprunka@gmail.comOn Wed, Aug 19, 2015 at 12:31...
Re: [dcphp-dev] Need help with PHP site
Looks like you have a custom site, built offshore. Try contacting the devs who built it for support-- there's a link at the bottom of your site.On Wed, Aug 19, 2015 at 12:26 PM Melvin Hardy <melvin.hardy@gmail.com> wrote:I am not a coder or developer. I don't know how to update the site and want to sit with someone who can help me learn how to do updates and improvements to the site. Please look at it and let me know if anyone can help.
